Big Trip 2011

Still in California, but not for long...
We have been in California for around two weeks now, and aside from some sort of food-poisoning/dehydration/heat stroke/exhaustion episode that I sustained in San Francisco and another really hot day getting out to Fresno, things have been going pretty well. We spent three days in Yosemite, which was magnificent to say the least, and have been in Newport Beach for the last two or so days. Tomorrow or the next day we will make our way out to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon and Sedona, and then work our way up into Utah. We have met no small number of characters along the way, as well as friends new and old. An old friend was nice enough to put us up in the Bay for three or four days and Becky Kim was nice enough to spend her afternoon driving us around San Francisco, and that is just naming a few. We also had a great time with the legendary Schotts in Fresno. We have spent almost every night camping since we left, and I haven't had much access to a computer (which is of course a major objective of the trip), so I hope that posting a few pictures will speak louder than any more nonsense I can type.
Since I am absolutely terrible at blogging in general I'm not even going to bother trying to type captions for these photos. I'll leave it to your imagination if you feel so inclined, and will upload a more comprehensive album in a month or so when I return home. Hasta!

On the road, finally.
So we left on Tuesday and have been camping since last night. We took the 101 all the way down to Berkley and are staying with Kris Knutson. The Oregon Coast was spectacular, as it always is, and it was nice to be able to spend a little more time in the Redwoods than I have in years past. I am hurrying this post because we have to get out of here and get out to Sonoma. There are already plenty of stories to tell but we are just having too much fun for me to be able to sit down at a computer and regale you with them. Hopefully I will have a little more time for a real post next time.

Getting Ready
After about six months of planning, spending, worrying, and working, Chris Carlson and I are about to begin our super summer adventure. Two weeks ago he arrived from Minnesota, and since then we have been camping and visiting with family and friends. We will meet up with Warren Matthews in a few days, most likely around the Oregon coast. We were trying to leave two or three days ago, but were waylaid by the fact that Chris's bike needed a new tire, which turned into two tires and a new set of brakes and fork seals. If all goes as planned, which seldom happens with things of this nature, we should be ready to go tomorrow morning, heading down to Portland to visit with my family, and then making our way down the Oregon Coast into the Redwoods. I have already posted some pictures of our recent adventures on my Facebook page, and am more or less just writing this entry to both see if I can figure it out, and hopefully also compel myself to keep it somewhat up-to-date. Hopefully next time you tune in I will have some new pictures and adventures to share.
